Cookie and Josh

Klez Kamp Staffers Cookie Segestien and Joshua Horowitz relax and play a tune between classes:

Bulky Trash Day

It's Bulky Trash Collection Day here in Austin Texas tomorrow.

Normally that would mean drinking a pot of coffee, loading up a pickup truck with a few friends and cruising through the rich White neighborhoods helping ourselves to the discarded detritus of rampant consumerism.

But these days, I strive to remove bulk from my life, both figuratively and literally and here's the pile I left for some one else to come drag home. Closing a cycle if you will.

Ugly Sweater Party

So every year my old pal Lucinda throws a Holiday party at her and her husband's lovely house in the Oak Cliff neighborhood or Dallas. December is the first time we Texans pull out our sweaters from storage, and then only when there's a little nip in the air at night in fact. The concept for her party is that you have to show up with the ugliest sweater you can find. There are prises for the most appalling and vile sweaters. To date, I have been unable to attend but this year I did find a vintage photo of myself in a poorly chosen sweater and submitted it for the contest.

I share with you now, clipped from the Daily Norman (OK) Transcript, 10/28/81, from an article about the naming of the Norman High Student Congress, representing the marching band, yours truly:

Hooray for Germany!! A win for XENU!!!

Man alive, first the the Germans make a minor career for me playing Jewish music that absolutely no one here cares about. And now I read on CNN that they're gonna ban Scientology!! Christmas has come early, or think of it as a lovely Hannukah gift. (Better that the damn socks I got normally....)

From the online article:
"The interior ministers of the nation's 16 states plan to give the nation's domestic intelligence agency the task of preparing the necessary information to ban the organization, which has been under observation for a decade on allegations that it "threatens the peaceful democratic order" of the country."

If Scientology is a "religion" then I'm the King of France, as we would say back home.

I could kiss the kraut bastards....
