Scanning YouTube, I found a pretty random, but wonderful cut from Leo Fuld, a Dutch Yiddish singer I had until today never encountered. Seems he was active until his death in 1997 and there's quite a lot of his stuff available.
It's a great vocal riff on a traditional doyne (doina) form starting off like a slow zhok and then cutting loose at a high speed like a Romanian number rather than the usual obligato, slow Jewish style. Can't say I dig the "gypsy" fiddler, but the Jew trumpter is cooking. And is he whistling the 3rd solo break? Madness.
Dig it.
